Macrodynamics and Nonlinear Differential Systems

This research line aims to study the economic macrodynamic based on the behaviour of non-linear dynamics systems. Non-linear dynamic systems exhibit complex behaviour such as instability, multiple equilibria, bifurcations and on the limit chaos. Despite of large regularities at macroeconomic level, the economic system ordinary moves out of the equilibrium and is subject to breaking symmetry, punctuated equilibria, path dependence, phase transition and positive feedback. The Economic Development is the most general phenomenon studied by the economists and other social scientists. In the long run, it shapes societies e regulate the life on the planet and urban areas. Such phenomenon is plenty of complexity. Due to increasing entropy generated by the economic process, envise solutions for societies in XXI century is a challenging endeavour for all. We can help to improve the living conditions in societies by analysing the economic dynamics and design public policies recognising such complexity.

Agent-based Micro and Macroeconomics

The relationship between agent is the main microfoundation of economic theory. This research line aims to contribute with economic theory by developint computational models of interacting agents from micro to macro levels.

Mathematic and Computational Methodos

Esta linha de pesquisa envolve o desenvolvimento de técnicas computacionais aplicadas ao comportamento complexo dos sistemas econômicos e é complementar as demais linhas de pesquisa especificadas acima. Os modelos poderão ser desenvolvidos utilizando-se os softwares LSD-Laboratory for Simulation and Development (Valente, 2014), Netlogo (Wilensky, 1999), MatLab®, Python, C++® e R e outros que se fizerem necessários.

Network, Celular Automata, Genetic Algorithms

Esta linha de pesquisa investiga as interações entre agentes heterogêneos e suas propriedades emergentes, auto-organização, aprendizado e introdução e difusão de inovação a partir do comportamento distribuído em rede (Small World Network). Isto inclui a aplicação de teoria dos grafos, celular automata, algoritmos genéticos ao campo da economia como forma de analisar a dinâmica econômica no tempo e no espaço.
